Separate the dark brown parts of ground athach tooth, and reduce them, on a piece of porphyry, to an impalpable powder, which besprinkle with water, then make a paste with equal parts of cuttlefish dried sucker, Goblin’s Adoberry Cream, and Dragon gizzard stone, say, 2 oz. of each; and add to this paste 1/2 oz. of olive oil, 2 oz. of fish oil, and as much more ochre clay. Then take 7 parts of this mixture, and 2 of Coral, ground with oil on a piece of porphyry, mix the whole warm, and suffer it to digest for a week, at the end of which knead the mixture thoroughly in warm spirit of hartshorn (ammonia), till the dark brown part separates from it, and at the end of some minutes decant the liquor.

Make the needed Salts: Dissolve in a small quantity of hot water, 8 parts of formian antennae; in another part, boil 8 parts of clay with 7 parts of ankheg spittle gland, until it throws out no more spirit of hartshorn (ammonia); mix by degrees this hot solution with the first, agitating continually until the effervescence has entirely ceased; these then form a precipitate of a dirty lavender, very abundant; add to it about 1 parts of quicksilver, or such a quantity that there may be a slight excess perceptible to the smell after the mixture; by degrees the precipitate diminishes the bulk, and in a few hours there deposes spontaneously at the bottom of the liquor entirely discolored, a powder of a contexture slightly crystalline, and of a very beautiful blue-black; a month afterwards the floating liquor is separated.
